Buchanan got its start with a unique advantage: It was founded by a former truck driver. This key distinction shapes everything we do and has driven the business’s phenomenal growth.
Geary Buchanan launched Buchanan Hauling and Rigging in June 1996. At the time, he was an owner-operator with 24 years’ experience in the trucking industry. But Geary saw an opportunity to supply quality transportation at a fair market rate, to build long-lasting business relationships and to provide high-quality jobs for drivers and owner-operators. And he believed that he could outwork and outperform the competition. So with one truck and two trailers, he made his dream a reality.
Buchanan Hauling first offered flatbed, open deck transportation. We quickly grew to include expedited flatbed service and serve the heavy haul market, with multiple axle trailers hauling oversized and overweight cargo. We expanded across North America, providing door-to-door services with no trans-loading at the border. As business increased, we launched a full-service logistics company, Buchanan Logistics, to handle all types of commodities, projects and freight moves throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thanks to customer demand, we recently entered the van/enclosed trailer market as well. If something needs to be moved, Buchanan can do it.
Ours has been a family business since the beginning. Geary remains actively involved in every detail of business at Buchanan. His wife, Becky, well versed in life as a truck driver’s wife, joined the company in an administrative role; together, they’ve made both driver and customer satisfaction their highest priorities. Their hard work and the efforts of the talented Buchanan team of dedicated employees has resulted in double-digit growth since the business’s inception.
Today, we’re one of the largest carriers in northeast Indiana, with $90 million in revenue in 2014. We work with Fortune 500 companies internationally. But we have no intention of slowing down. We have offices in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as Pittsburgh, and we’re actively seeking additional locations. Our next goal is $250 million in annual revenue; through investment, expansion and a solid team effort, we expect to reach each destination on the road ahead.
