What qualifies as an oversized load?
An oversized load is freight that exceeds the legal transportation dimensions established by state or provincial regulations for width, height, length, or weight. Because these shipments fall outside standard transportation limits, they often require specialized equipment, route planning, permit coordination, and regulatory compliance before they can be moved safely.
Common examples of oversized loads include construction equipment, industrial machinery, transformers, turbines, structural steel components, prefabricated buildings, agricultural equipment, and project cargo. Depending on the shipment's size and route, oversized loads may also require escort vehicles, route surveys, utility coordination, and specialized trailers such as lowboys, RGNs (Removable Gooseneck trailers), or multi-axle configurations.
Buchanan Hauling & Rigging provides oversized load transportation services throughout North America, supporting customers with permit coordination, route analysis, specialized equipment, and experienced heavy haul transportation professionals to ensure safe and compliant freight movement.
